i read alot about all sort of add on solutions that are way over priced. how about using what we know from the wiring digarams and pinout and tap dirctly to the CD R/L +/- cables? any one try that?

also,
any one know or has acces to what is:
Audio Corparate Protocal A/B (piongs 1/9)
Audio ON or ASYS ON

are they some how tie the audio selection on the HU?

asys on is a 12 v power when head unit is on to turn the rear amp on and off.

I know some Taurus guys that hacked the tape deck so they could use an RCA cable doctored to the cassette head wiring in the radio, and a 3.5mm jack on it to plug into an MP3. The wire came out the back, and when they put the tape in, it would activate and wait for signal from the headphone jack/MP3.

well, it looks that it is quite taffer then it seems.
I tryed simply with the CD inputs, but the HD wil not take the input.
I switched to a HD that has TAPE/CD inputs, but when pressed the CD input, that normally activates the external cd changer, it says no cds found!

So my conclusion is that the PROTOCOL A and B are some how communicating with the RADIO about incomming sinput. My guess is that one of them takes commands to switch tracks or CDS while the other providing feedback about the incoming input and what track / cd is playing.

anyone brave to takle those two?

i dont want to sound like an ass but its not worth it.

no after market company will make a product just for one mfg, one product line, no profits in it so they dont bother.

ford will use an audio network to send signals to and from this also reduces the number of wires the vehicle uses.

Quite alright... any responce is good as far as i am concern.

My objective here is more of a principle and challange then profitablity. I spent $80 once on a device to do just that between the HU and the cd changer, but that car fliped! and is now standing in my back yard for parts. my replacement: 98 Explorer does not have the changer AND no harness for it (grrrrr). i would have to take the entire center consol appart to replace the center consol harnes to accomodate for the changer.

on a different site, i am getting close to the mistery: the Protocal +/- (A/B) wires are RS232 serial connectors. so i am venturing to see if i can find a way to connect a serial controller that will send the proper communication to the the task. this will work on any ford with premium sonnd jsut about out there. at the end it may cost the same or more, but satifaction is pricless :-)

np, alot of is undocumented... which is horrible and just trial and error.

probably working on resistance values like most other switches, but i could be wrong...
