You can't bump up the timing,

You can add a chip for some excellent gains in power. That's really all I can think of for the SOHC.

You could wait for the EE supercharger. That would be the single biggest performance mod for the SOHC. But you dont want to do that.
Other thank a KKM, chip, and exhaust... you cant really do much.
You can do little things like Flex-a-lite fans to improve gas mileage... but I wouldnt expect much for that.
Good luck

A Tornado should give you a few more ponies!

Okay okay, we are all lying. The best thing to do is a few Type - R stickers. It adds at least 100 hp and gives you VTEC (aka Very Tall Engine Cooling ;))

I love how that just rolls of your tongue... V-TEC... I think I'm going to name my first son V-TEC.

Im not a big fan of stickers so im going to have to sacrifise the 100hp there. I figured there were little things you can do to help it out... guess not becides a chip. Im buying a Tweecer RT for my car i wonder if it would work on the Explorer as well. Anyone know?

the furry dice work pretty well as do's the pin striping

Performance not a ricer move... if thats what i was looking for a would of bought a Civic and stickered the living hell out of it.

Are their any gains by changing out the stock MAF to aftermarket one? or is this mainly a fule milage , throtle response gain?

J

If you are brave, you could port and polish your intake and exhaust manifolds yourself.:)
