I need to remove the dome light cover to replace the bulb. It is the fancy dome
light with the two switches that control the "airplane-like" lights. The middle
bulb is out. My book shows a simple dome light with only one bulb.
The book says to use a screwdriver to pry the cover loose from the headliner.
I do not want to damage the cover if prying it loose is not the way to do it.

If you look at the clear cover, there is a small recess in the rear. Use a flat bladed screw driver and gently pry the cover down.

Are you trying to replace the dome in the middle of the roof or the map lights over the rear view mirror?

The dome light cover in the middle of the roof has a small notch on one side that lays against the ceiling fabric. You can use a flathead screwdriver or trim tool to gently pry it off.

The map light cover has a small notch in the back of it. Similarly, you can use a screwdriver or trim tool to gently pry it off.

Speaking of interior lighting, I'm trying to replace the map lights in my 93 Explorer. The owners manual says 211-2 bulbs, so I bought some LEDs that are supposed to be compatible, but they seem too long. Any ideas? Here's what I bought:
