I got the back one off just fine, but the front one won't budge, tried unscrewing the screws Torx #24 or 25 I think but they just spin. Is there a secret?
Just unscrewed the 2 Torx bits on each side of mine and the thing came right out of the top. No tricks. Maybe the holes are stripped?? I think the threaded sleeves inserted in the plastic are only made of brass.
I can't get those baby's off. I was wondering about removing the outer two rails the cross bars slide in. Do the screws go into the roof - like/unlike the middle strip rails on the roof?
I just loaded 160lbs on mine this weekend, hit a curb, completely trashed the rear mount, and probly weakend the front one alot! Probly not the best way ( it was an accident) and now off with the rack until summer and new custom mounts
Pete
have you stripped the head or is the bolt turning? There is a brass insert in the plastic that the bars screw into. Are you getting rid of the racks cause you could cut them apart.
Some of each, a couple are turning but not coming out, other 2 seem to budge but can't get a grip on them to know for sure. I have not commited to gettting rid of them yet - so trying to remove. Even if I cut cross bar off - how do I get the sides off - without removing the whole rail?
If they're turning then they're stripped or the brass sleeve like mentioned about is loose. At this point you should be able to carefully pry them out and it'll just leave the holes. One of my front ones did that too.
