I have a set of Kicker Impulse i570 5x7s that I took out of my Ford Contour. I know the Explorer Sport has the same size factory speakers (6x8) and these will fit if I can get to the mounting area.

Does anyone know how to remove the rear seat speaker grilles? Is this even possible or do I have to remove the entire rear seat and tailgate surround? I fiddled with them and they almost seem to be snapped into place, but I didn't want to use too much force and break the surround if the grilles weren't a removable piece.

Welcome to the board Sport!

Take a look at the Audio Forum Quick Reference right above this post by Kris Gilbeaux, I think it might have what you need in it. Let us know if you cant find anything and we'll see what we can do.

Thanks for the welcome.

I checked out the audio FAQ but didn't find an answer.

Here's another question; my brother is an audio nut and he suggested that a simple speaker upgrade to my new (build date 9/00) audiophile system wouldn't make much difference as the stock speakers aren't broken in yet and should still sound fine to my unexperienced ears. Is this good advice? If not, does it make sense to go and upgrade the stock 8" sub to an aftermarket 8" sub?

On my 94 Sport, all I did was to push down on the top (of grille) and pull out the grille. Or was it push up on the bottom. I forgot it takes less than a second to get them off. It took me about 15 minutes to switch out the rear speakers to 6x8.
