Hi,
The previous owner of my X used some kind of tape to tape plastic over the sunroof when it had been stuck open. I repaired the sunroof but am damned if I can remove the tape residue. Tried GooGone and a few other off the shelf products. I know over time, 2yrs+, it will eventually come off but would like to get it off now. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm surprised that GooGone didnt get it off. Try spreading peanut butter over the residue and let the oil soak in, then wipe clean. That may take it off.

Thanks, I'll give that a try this afternoon! Hope it works!

there is this stuff called disolv-it that works very very well. Just spray it on the surface or a rag and rub a bit and it will be gone. I think you can get it at wal-mart(im not sure what section though).

I've had good luck with WD40. Just spray some on and let it sit for a few minutes, rub some off with a rag and repeat until it is gone.

In my younger days I worked at the local Honda dealer detailing cars. 3M makes a chemical called Prepsol that is the stuff. Works great...

I used lactol on my car to remove all the FN resedue from the side moulding crap that was on the car...Works great it uused by my dad to remove all the glew from the $45,000+ cabinets he installs and hge says some of them are higher polished than my car! so i say give that a try also try using all the chemicalls one after another to see if that breaks it down some(dont use them at the same time though unless you plan to die!) Hope this helps Nick

Any body ever see that Simpsons episode where Lisa got gum stuck in her hair ?

This thread made me think of that.

Try the 3M stuff. They have an adheasive remover. It is not magic. It takes elbow grease, but it works.

Note: Never use peanut butter on your X.... LOL What an oily mess on windows, paint, etc. (happened to rain that night...). It may end up being as hard to clean up as getting the tape off. BTW, didn't help at all with tape either... Oh well... maybe I should have tried a brand name peanut butter....

LOL!! Maybe try chuncky peanut butter next time.....It's more abrasive in that form. :p Or you could try that peanut butter with jelly mixed in already..... :p

Perhaps if I had covered it all with bread crumbs?

Well, at least the neighborhood dogs didn't climb on the roof to get to it. I know my two dogs were wandering around it sniffing with there noses up in the air...

Bread crumbs....OF COURSE!! :) That should be your next move. Peanut butter goes best with bread you know..... :p

Yes, now that my X has peanut butter oil all over it I should either cover it completely with bread crumbs or have sex with it... or both.... well, time to close this thread...LOL

LOL!! You've done all you can at that point then I guess! :chug:

if your car has clear coat on it use a rag with some gasoline on it. It will clean anything off. But with no clearcoat it'll rip your paint right off. Thats what we use on our sportbikes when we're pulling old decals off. Takes the residue away almost instantly. Oh and don't smoke while your doing it!

What I used to take off a stick film that was left behind when I took off my pinstripes was WD-40 and a paper towel and rubbed away. It came off and worked well. After useing the WD 40 wash the spot to where you put it on and put some light wax over the same spot.

Just get some adhesive remover from home depot or a similar hardware store. I got some bio-safe adhesive remover from home depot to remove my (huge and ugly) side molding and the stuff worked like a charm.. :)
