Need to route a cable coming from the PCM into the interior of my Explorer 2007. Where is the best place to go through the firewall?

Not sure if there was a change but this is on my 02:

There's a rubber grommet that inside goes:

You lift that flap:

and poke a hole in the rubber to pull your wires:

can I ask what you are installing that requires a wire to the PCM?

I have installed a radio with navigation that requires a speed signal from the car.
I am searching for weeks now to get information where to get this signal.
My Ford dealer told me that for this model there is only one way to get it.
The signal has to be taken from the OSS-Sensor (Output Shaft Speed) because all other signals run through the CAN-BUS and after that they can not be used anymore for my navigation.
The cable from the OSS-sensor goes to the PCM at pin 3 of the 50 pin "T" (transmission) plug and is yellow/orange.
In my opinion the signal can also be taken from two other sensors: the TSS (Turbine Shift Sensor) and the ISS (Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor).

The Ford radio had "sensitive volume speed", but the signal for this comes from CAN-BUS and differs from that raw signal I need.

When I installed my AVIC a few months ago I ran into the same dilemma. After finding the wire in the engine compartment, I could see no easy way to get it back to the cabin. Plus, I was not comfortable tapping into the factory harness.

Solution: I did not connect this wire and it has made no noticeable difference. It's only function seems to be making the system more accurate, particularly where it has lost the GPS signal, like in a tunnel.

Where did you get the information about the right wire in the engine compartment? And which wire was is?

Check in the audio/nav section of this forum and search the web(keywords VSS+Ford+explorer). I used avic411.com too.

Speed Sense purple/orange PCM, 50 pin plug, pin 1
Notes: The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is on the passenger side firewall.

If you open the hood and look closely at the 3 connectors plugged in on the passenger side you will notice the pins are numbered. I believe the purple orange is at the bottom right corner of the middle plug. It appears to be marked with a # 1.

Supposedly, the VSS wire is also found at the windshield wiper motor, pin 4.
