Hello fellow Explorers,
I have not seen anything on this, but I apologize if this turns out to be a duplication of an earlier post.
With the temperature about -6 F my wife ran out of gas. She got confused while returning from shopping and turned away from civilization.
I have, unfortunately, had some experience with this problem.
The fastest and easiest way to get going again is to : 1. Add at least 2 gallons of gas to the tank. 2. cycle the fuel pump on and off, maybe 5 or 6 times (turn the key to position 2) then back to position 1. 3. turn the key to the start position as you normally would to start the car.
* When you turn the key to position 2, you should be able to hear the fuel pump turn on then off. If you don't. You have a fuel pump problem.
If all else is well. Your Explorer will fire up as if nothing had happened.
I learned this from experience. I ran out of gas before, as I mentioned. Once with AAA on hand it took over 45 minuets to get her to fire.
Hope this is useful for someone. Happy Holidays!
