I've got a o2 sensor out on bank 2 sensor 1. How do I tell which side is which? I couldn't tell which valve cover was more forward. Is there another way? Thanks for the help.

Also, have the "howling intake". Saw the sticky and the fix. Will try it out tonight.
Great forum....

the side that has the number 1 cylinder is bank one, other side is bank two

The pasenger side (American) is bank one.

How do I tell which is the #1 cylinder? Thanks...

Looking under the hood left is one on a Ford. From front to back 1,2,3, on the right 4,5,6,. V8 is similar only with 8.

Thanks that helps out a lot. I'm thinking I should be able to change the driver's side o2 sensor easier.

Again, great site. Thanks.

A trick that "normally" works is to look at the heads.. Which one is more forward? Thats the side that is #1.. as mentioned above.. Passenger side is #1 bank on the X.

To OP. There are 4 O2 sensors. On each bank there are two. One before the cat and one after. A good diagnostic print out can tell you more about the trouble before you start throwing cash. For instance a hole in the exhaust can give false data. So can an intake vacuum leak.

With O2 sensors costing $60-$100 per O2 sensor I would want to know more than just a code.

Good idea. I'm going to clean the IAC first (I'm getting the howling sound) and then pull the battery cable to reset the codes. If the the engine light comes back on, I'll have the AZ check it again to make sure.

Thanks for the advice.
