My 99 is the first vehicle I have owed with fog lights, and I don't know how to use them!

I understand the principle, by being down low they don't create of fog of light and ruin your vision. That implies that you use them at night WITHOUT normal headlights. Is that correct? Or do you use both headlights and foglights?

Sorry if this sounds elementary, but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.

you can use both, but i wouldnt advise driving with only fog lights on. they light up a bit of the road down low and only a short distance. However the light they shine, isnt as bright as your normal headlights.

i have also found the foglights extremely useful when offroading at dark. They just light up things lower to the ground better than headlights.

OMFG Pittsford! I love Pittsford! The canal is great - and the little shops around the canal

anyways, onto ur question : fog lights dont realy help, unless you're going like 2 mph - but on the highway, they are useless.

here is an interesting read, its not related to how to use fog lights, but its fog light related: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/phy99/phy99xx4.htm

Yours must be wired different than mine. My fog lights won't even come on till the headlights are on.

ya the 98 and newer trucks can turn on the fog laps with out the headlights having to be on, just the parking lights. THeres a thread on the forum on how to do this modification.

I believe its 99 and above (when the fog lights were changed from rectangular to round) that can turn on the fogs w/o the headlights being on.

wait, so how do we turn on fogs w/o headlights being on? i have a 98 xlt by the way.

u cant with your 98 (read my post above) not w/o rewiring at least.

:thumbdwn: my '00 fogs wont turn on unless my headlights are on

On my 99, the foglights will turn on with the headlights off. Thats odd.

thats wierd...how does my friends 98 mounty turn on. its fogs w/o headlights? Oh well.

I have a 01, round fogs, they turn on without the headlights being on.

I think the 2 of us got screwed. Mine are the same way w/ the factory switch.

Annoying as hell so I cut the wire & put my own switch in.

The reason they are down low and that color is to cut through the Fog to see the ROAD itself...The lower the better since fog "floats"

You need to still use your regular headlights though to see everything else above the fog.:D

I am thinking of rewiring mine, but i wanted to pick some of the square onws that were clear like the headlights i ordered...i didnt see any on ebay or any othe sites ive looked. anyone know of any ways to get the factory look out of them?

huh you meant sqaures like the factory 95-97's?

Get some like the Super Dutys!

-Drew

thats a good idea...yea i am talking about the 97 squares. i could put the super duty ones in the lower valance behind the billet grille? what do you think?

I bought a set of after-market driving/fog lights for my 95 XLT, but I'm not exactly sure where I can mount them. Any suggestions?
