how well does a performance tuner work on the 5.0

thinking about buying one but would like to hear some reveiws on it. i was looking at the jet performance programmer or the hypertec. someone said they dont do much for gasoline engines so i would like to hear from someone who has actually used one. any hp gain info would be apprieciated. I hate when a tuner car beats me. ha

i have a 96 v8 awd. ive put on magna flow exhuast but thats about it so far.

They help a lot. The more mods you have the more they help. I picked up 6 tenths of a second at the track with an x-cal2 with my current mods in back to back passes.

He is specifically asking about the plug and play, off the shelf, generic tuned chips.

THOSE are almost a waste of money.

Buy an Xcal3 from HensonPerformance. He's a GREAT guy to deal with, and has a GREAT following here, and on a few other boards.

i'd suggest do other bolt on mods first then do the tuner last to make them all work in sync.. sct xcal hand held programmers are your best choice so far..
