1997 XL
Whats going on guys? I just tonight picked up my 1997 Explorer XL. It has 176,000 km on the body and 10,000 km on the engine from a 2003 Ranger. It is basically in mint condition minus a couple of dings here and there and it is in need of a wheel alignment. I can't wait to toss in a stereo system and a snowboard rack on the roof for this winter. I am just being a curious george but how much would a guy be looking to spend to just toss on a inexpensive 2" lift just to make it look a little more rugged. Or would you just suggest tossing on some 31's

welcome

Welcome to the site, enjoy your Explorer they are a fun truck.

2 inches of lift is easy , shackles for the back springs, and twist up the front torsion bars,, only the shackles cost , there is a shop in Calgary that sells the Warrior ones,,
and the tires,,, 31's are good,, they fit on stock rims even,

Welcome to Explorer Forum! If you do a TT and shackles you can squeeze 32's under it with stock rims. You just have very little suspension travel.

I am on the hunt for some shackles as we speak. If I can't find any in Edmonton then I am just going to have to wait. I SOOOOO BADLY want to put a nice muffler on after watching some videos on youtube but every car I have had over the past 3 years has had some sort of performance muffler and now I want to be able to hear my music without cranking the volume.

Another question I have before my day starts off. The Explorer did not come with the remote for the keyless entry. Is there a generic remote I can pick up somewhere or do I have to go to Ford and pay them rediculous amounts of money?

i think it was in the north end,,

Yeah you were saying that but I don't really want to double the price of the shackles because of gas money lol. I am going through Calgary on my way to Whistler and way back from Whistler so I will probably stop then

i have a ford remote you are welcome to it. ( but u will need to get it programmed for your truck,

let me know if you want it.

it's the only part i have left from my f150

Wicked thanks man. I am still unsure if it even has the keyless entry so I guess that will be the best way to find out. Its a 97 XL, so you would think it would right.

This is the explorer by the way.

I am kind of wanting to paint everything that is chrome to black but I am still unsure

Hello

West end here.

igiveup

nice looking x looks in good shape for it's year.

Thanks. I love this truck so much. Its nice to drive something comfortable and quiet for a change. I just need to find a garage to install my amp kit, fog lights, and shackles when I find some.

wow,, looks just like mine when i started on here,,
the details are in my signature, i did a bit , as i hope you do too,,

My plans are to fix that purge valve first, then get my alignment done, install my stereo system(I am going to see if I can get the 6x9's to fit in the rear doors), then do the shackles and TT, then a remote start, then finally, find some 31's and while they are getting put on, paint my rims black except for the center caps. I want to try to find a front bumper from an Eddie Bauer edition with the fog lights built in to put on. I also want to delete my pin stripping, toss some projector headlights and HID's in as well as possibly some rear tails but that isn't really a rush for me. I would like to convert all of the gauges and dash to red LED's during the summer.
