Hello all!

I am new to the forums and planning spending most of my time in the modified section, however before i start anything I was curious about what my truck has stock for HP and Torque?

I have a 1994 explorer limited. It has about 94k on it and runs fantastic. How much HP and Torque would you say it has? I have never had a problem with response when i asked for it am just curious.

Thanks!

From the factory, I believe the 94's were:

160 HP

230-235 TQ.

Thanks for the reply!

How much does this number change at the wheel when playing with gear ratio's. I know that by changing the gear ratio you are changing the effective HP and torque to the rear wheels, however i dont really understand what the number meens, and stands for.

Anyone have any good reference material on this?

Thanks!

haha, perhaps i have been misinformed... What are you changing when you change the gear ratio in the differential? It isn't the torque / HP at the wheels?

Not really ,you are changing the RPM that the vehicle is at at speed, say stock is 2000 rpm at 65 and you geared up.You would get a little better response because your RPM's would be higher, say 2300 now at 65. My 69 Road runner was geared at 4.10 and would do 115 mph at 5500 rpm.But it would snap your neck off the line and got single digit fuel mileage. My 68 was geared at 3.55 and had much better manners and fuel mileage.Generally speaking torque is 3000 rpm and below and horsepower is 3000 rpm and up,thats a very general statement,it gets real complex, cams and intakes, etc. :D

haha, i see i see. Well thank you for the response! ... i have been talking to a few people both on and off the forums about what gear ratio's to look into with tire sizes and all, I really just wanted to get a beter understanding of what was going on inside the diff.

Thanks again!

I read all sorts of online explanations, write ups, DIY's, diagrams, and it still wasn't completely clear. But I got this book for x-mas, and it does an excellent job of explaining everything you could ever want to know about axles and differentials. I now feel completely confident in installing a locker, replacing a broken axle shaft, etc.
