I'll help you out a little. Here is some of the previous conversation on the thread at Dead Link Removed.

In the old days we did have our own. It was 3 trucks, Gerald,Brian, and me. I vote for the metorplex group getting there thing going again.

I nominate Msupertek for chapter pres!

We need to plan a night on the weekend where we can meet up (all of us) for dinner, I'll bring my digital camera and we snap pictures of all are X's. I'll post em and we can claim our own chapter, oh and if your two wheel that's alright I guess. If your truck can't make it through the trails you can just ride shotgun with us and pitch in on something. WHO"S WITH ME?

My wife (Tammy) and I absolutely hated to leave Colorado and get away from the Ex group up there. At that time, Perry/Terry, MMPC, and Matt Adams spearheaded the group. The family atmosphere was the BEST. (Gerald can attest to that, since he was in on all the CCR runs.) We've been wheeling with jeepers and other crowds and just never fit in with the drinkin', smokin', cussin', spittin' types. I'm never comfortable wheelin' with guys when they have a beer in the cupholder and the CB sounds like a bunch of sailors.

I would love to get together with the locals and get in tune with the North Texas scene. And BamBam is always ready to pose for a picture, bald tires or not. :D

Why don't you guys take over the old Texplorers website. Kris Guilbeaux is the current contact for that site, but it hasn't been maintained or updated in a couple of years. Kris said he'd be willing to hand it over, since he has a newfound home at Demon4x4.com. I think it would be a good idea since Demon4x4.com is not Explorer specific, or really even Texas specific, for that matter. We just happen to be based in Texas. You could still divide it up into North / South Texas if you wanted. If I remember correctly, someone had purchased Texplorers.com as an address, but I don't remember who it was or what happened with that. It might have been Rod (Sinjin or Sinjinpez, something like that).

That would be a great idea, I already have a message board that can be re-arranged to accomodate this type of stucture and I don't mind paying for the domain name.

Give me the big scoop and I'll make it happen!

He already has pictures of the Kingsland Slabs on there too!

CHECK it!:

I believe that Sinjen ( clan of Pez ) orginally got the TEX explorers deal going.

I would be willing to help with the website if you are willing to teach or show me a few tricks.

Thanks Rob

So, do we want to take over http://texplorers.rockcrawler.com or make a new site at http://www.texplorers.com? If we want to take over the old site (with the annoying pop-up ads  ) we need to know how to get access to it for file uploads, etc. If we want to make a new site we need to buy server space and the domain name. I've got a buddy that hosts web sites pretty cheap; includes e-mails, php and perl scripting, database support, etc. (You guys with some web know-how will know what that all means. To the rest, it's cool and it's cheap.)

Anyone care to take the lead on this?

I'd be willing to help with the new site as well. I think you should get some new space and take Texplorers.com and run with it. You could always have a link to the old site in an archival sort of way. I think it would be better to start over mostly so you would have a more legit member list, and put your own pictures up, etc.

We should start a new thread, or take the relevent parts out of this one and make a new thread out of it..

OK SO YOU ALL READ THE POST!

Now lets find a date to meet. I figure after everyone gives a definite yes to being involved in a southern chapter. Then you need to state it by posting and giving weekends say for the next 8 weeks that you know you will have time to attend a gathering.

Next, we review that information to determine the best time to meet as well as a center destination. I figure we will select a destination that is between 70% or more members, so most won't have to drive to far.

Then we select the destination and date to have this gathering. Afterwards everyone will post to show that they agree and will be attending.

PLEASE ONLY POST IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT ATTENDING.

Weekends are flexable, and plans could be made on a "Need to do basis"

Location: Waco

I would also like to comment, that some of us would lke to possibly make this a camping event.

Some come in of Friday (I'll take that day off) and the rest on Saturday.

I'm in

I live in N. Arlington (360 and Green Oaks).

I don't want to plan anything on 6/28-29 as I MIGHT have to work that weekend. Next Sunday, 6/8 is out. We have a church thang. 7/19 is out. We're going to a concert.

I can get the domain set up and a Linux server host set up in less than a day. It will cost $15 a month for the server, and the domain will cost approx $35 a year. I figure if the pass the hat a couple of times a year we can cover this.

I'm good friends with the guy who runs the host server. He already hosts my two web sites and my parents site. Unlimited e-mail addresses, perl and php support, SQL database, yadda yadda yadda.

Im game for it, there is only one thing though. I wont be in Texas till the end of August. So if I dont make it to any gatherings this summer its not because I didnt want to go.

I live in Brenham, Texas. Its in between Austin and Houston.

Keep em coming!

Just putting it back up on the list so everyone sees it.:D

For all who want to know what to expect look at the pics in this section of our trip to Kingsland slabs.

We actually had a 2 wheeler who rode along with one of us and all turned out great!:D

Sounds like fun, I'm available pretty much whenever (with adequate notice of date). I'll go for anyplace within 250 miles or so of Dallas(covers a broad enough area).

I live in Richardson, between Plano and Dallas

Texplorers would cover all of Texas, but it looks like it will be divided into a Northern and Southern chapter.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to setup a basic website first, using it primarily as a registry of interested Texas explorers. The registry listing could include things like: driver, email address, year and model of Explorer, city, and a truck rating based on modifications, similar to this site's Big Dawg, Modified, Super stock, and stock categories. You could make up your own categories of course, those are just examples. Then you could go and set up meetings and stuff like that. I think you would get more participation that way, as people won't be put off by the fact that it sounds like they have to show up to a meeting to be a part of the group. Your core group would emerge later, consisting of the trucks that show up to meetings, and you'd still have an 'outer ring' of explorers that might not be able to make it all the time, but would still want to be a part of the club and be updated as far as club events, even if they can't show up all the time.
It would be nice to have the initial meeting like you suggest, but it just sounds like membership would be limited to that by your post.
You might do a search for 'Houston area get together' or any slabs post, or of course the member listing at the previously established site at texplorers.rockcrawler.com and maybe try contacting those people to guage their interest, since not everyone will see this post. Try contacting Alec and TrckMagik, for starters.

I was thinking the same thing with the northern and southern chapter. Of coarse that is after we get everything settled with the whole group. The northern people could go to Alto, Gilmer, AGR, 360, etc.
The southern people could go to the slabs, devils den, etc. And if anyone from the opposite chapter wanted to make the drive then that would be great also. Then every now and then we would all meet in the north for a run and in the south for a run. Just throwing some ideas out there.

I just found this thread.
I'll be lurking now...

I'm usually available most weekends.

I'm really interested in going offroading with other Explorers here in Texas.
But, it just always seems to be hard to get us together.

To the southern guys: If ya'll have something major to do on your trucks, I would love to be involved in helping. And I think we should at least get together once a month just to hang out or wheel or both.
Just email me or phone me as I don't always catch all the threads on all the boards that I read.

Of course I am game. I live in Plano @ Legacy and Alma.

I may change my mind but this is what I think.

I figure before going with a site and dumping numerous amounts of time into it, I would like to make sure that some people are on board.

Secondly, as far as some people not attending events, and just posting information. Well thats not exactly what I had in mind. I would like people who actually are willing to attend an occassional outing. Hell I live in Texas so its hard for me to get out to ARIZONA, but once a year I can do it. I already done it this year. So I figure if the people reading this understand what they can or can't attend (due to distance), so I figure we throw out some dates and places to go and see who all believes it is a reasonable distance. Also who will definitely attend. Not to knock anyone who doesn't like showing up, but just to talk on the board, but this is going to be a OFFROADING CLUB. So if you want to come on board, be ready to do some OFFROADING. Maybe not always hardcore stuff, but the occassional get together and cook out type deal. As I had said earlier about once every two months, that way everyone has plenty of time to plan for each get together. This way those of us have a trip every two months to look forward to. When we go, we'll all have a good time. Now if you don't show every once in a while, no problem I know things come up. Hell last year, my uncle died, my mom died, and my wife lost a child. So I KNOW LANDSLIDES HAPPEN. I would just like to get together with some people who want to have a good time, and if they want include the whole family no problem. I know my daughter loves offroading and camping and so does my wife so you will probably meet them on some of the outings (after my wife delivers my new daughter on July 8th). If there is only 20 of us thats fine 10 thats fine, I don't care about numbers. I'm not here for a popularity contest, I just want to HAVE FUN. When I'm not at work, I spend times with my wife, daughter, and friends because I have no family here other than my wifes. Actually I don't have much family anywhere maybe thats why I'm always in for doing something with others. Well I hope I have not offended anyone, hopefully we will put something together soon, I am looking forward to meeting everyone interested.:D

i thought you were up in plano lately ive been seeing the escape quite a bit .....

and i think diving in chapters sounds like a good idea

Msupertek...

I'm with ya, man. The whole point of a club (any kind of club) is to get to know people in the area with similar interests. Here in DFW (as was the case in CO), Tammy and I are pretty far removed from out families. So, we try to find hobbies that include making new friends.

So, with that said, I don't mind forging ahead with the web site. I can get something simple put together in no time. For me, building web sites is great fun. That's why I make a living as a web programmer. If nothing else it will give us some visibility. I'm not saying we run a Super Bowl commercial or anything. Just get something out there that people can find to get plugged in to a group of good folks with a great hobby.

Next, I agree with the North and South chapter bit. Given that, is there any wheeling to be had south of the DFW area, between here and Waco, where the North folks could meet up in the next month or so? It sounds like there's plenty of interest if we can just pick a time and a spot that works for stockers too.

Here's a map of the 3 places that I can think of that are between Northern and Southern Texas.
