I would like to replace my auto hubs for a manual set. Warn i heard was a good set but it seems there is problems with the kit you need to install them. Is this true? Is there another company that makes a good man. hub for explorers and if so what are part numbers. Need to do this soon my auto's are on the way out and do not want to be stuck with no 4x4.

I just installed the Warn manual hubs and had no problem. You do need to by the adaptor kit for it. I don't have the numbers, but go to there web site and they show you there which ones to use.
The first side took about twice as long as the second side since I have never done them before. The instructions are easy to follow also.
While we were in there we changed the front pads and repacked the bearings. I suggest you at least pack the bearings.
The biggest thing is getting the little stop or pin out of the old one. I used a little pick, but some say they have used a magnet.
Good Luck!!

Here are the part numbers for the warn tooken from http://www.4wheelparts.com
Hubs-WAR29071
Kit-WAR27997

You may want to email them to see if they've got the socket for the locking nuts too. It's a nice sized nut that most of use just used a screwdriver to tighten. Warn does make a part for it for about $10 or so.

You also might want to check Superwinch. I've somewhat sure they've got a set of hubs for the explorer too. Many people here on the board doen't like the Warn hubs due to the fact that the locking nuts may work themselves loose after time. I'm not sure if the Superwinches will do that or not. Give it a look-see.
