I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. I had my '06 V8 Explorer (AWD) to the dealer for a humming sound that they could not replicate. Well, it drove me crazy, so tonight I took it out, and here's the scenario. I accelerate normally, all is fine, until I hit 35 mph, let off the gas a bit, and when I give it more gas to slowly accelerate, one I approach 35mph again, I get a deep humming sound, and a slight vibration. Once I pass the 35-36mph speed it gos away. I have also experienced this on the highway, I don't recall at what speed, but probably around 60-65 mph. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it, as my extended warranty expires on 12/13/11.

I've been expierencing something similar to that on my 96 explorer. I'm currently searching the forum for an answer to my problem but I don't know what it is yet.. sorry

Check fluid levels both front & rear differentials. Check front driveshaft C-V joint (at transfer case).

Fluid OK, running driveline while on stands, as described elsewhere just a few minutes ago, might pinpoint cause. It sounds likely to be gear noise (ring & pinion). imp

Thanks for the tips on this. The Ex is going into the dealership next week, as i STILL HAve 1 month left on the extended warranty. Want to get this resolved before 12/13/11, when the warranty expires.
