Rule #1

Do not take apart the cylinder with the balls in it. It will take you several hours to get those backs where they belong.


I did figure out the easy way of putting those ball back in a FJ60 box however.. :rolleyes:

Home made tie rod clamp. tie rod is 1.25" tube, used a chunk of 1.5/.120 wall, sliced it, add bolts.. presto, something to get mad at. :)

Tom, any tips for tapping the FJ-60 box? Just follow the IFS instructions?

Tapping the FJ60 box is the same as the IFS pickup box. The difference comes in when you connect the lines - they are reversed.

As for ram stroke length, on a d30/d44 knuckle, they have more travel than a toy axle, so 6" may not be enough.

You should measure the amount of stroke needed - jack up the front, turn the wheels all the way to the left, mark the tie rod and housing - move all the way to the right, measure where the mark moved to, and that's your ram stroke length.

For a vehicle on the street, a 1.5" bore is more than enough.
 






Yeah, a 6" looks like it'll work great. I think I read that a 2" bore would make it more difficult for the stock pump to keep up with?

I saw your thread on PBB about this. Very informative. I am wondering if a 2" would be better incase I upgrade tire size down the road.
 






I'd stay with 1.5", and only worry about it after you upsize your tires.

Pump pressure and GPM have just as much effect as ram size.
 






I'm going to go into the shop tomorrow and see what this stuff is going to cost me. Thanks Tom.
