Hello all,
It's been a little while since I've posted anything on here but here is my latest ordeal...

Recently I installed a Hypertech chip into my Explorer. It seemed to run very well for the first 2 days. But I had had a very bad leak at my rear main seal that I hadn't addressed so I removed my chip and had it in for service and had my tranny replaced with a Jasper A4LD which has ended up being another ordeal in itself. In having the transmission installed I had had to take it in for service for the thrid time. On the way in for transmission service my engine started acting funny. I started to loose power drastically almost to the point of stalling out. So I decided it was best to take it by my mechanic to have him check over things. Two days later I face a bill for a new computer, a fuel pressure regulator, new spark plugs, and an oil change. Now I am sitting here wondering if I am to blame for installing a chip into my truck. I called my friend who is a Ford Certified Mechanic and he explained that sometimes computers go up on a whim and that the chip may not indeed be to blame. I have yet to hear what Hypertech has to say about everything. Now I have dropped 200 bucks for a chip and 600 for everything else not including my bill for a new transmission. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone have any experiences with faulty computers after installing chips?

Please comment away....

Thanks!

Happy Wheelin',

Joe

A chip won't cause parts to fail. However, it might cause running problems due to a loose connection. But the parts shouldn't have directly failed due to the chip. You may be taken for a ride if he said that all that crapped out at once.

I don't know. My Ford buddy suspected the fuel pressure regulator to be bad so I don't know for sure. My mechanic is usually right on the money. I was kind of getting a little weery of things myself but it would make since. I'll be able to tell because I'm going to have him give me the old computer so I can send it to hypertech for evaluation.

personally, ive never heard of a computer going bad because of a chip; the only problem i ever had with my superchip is that my truck was stalling all the time due to some minor corrosion between the computer and the chip (this is after ive had it on my truck for a few months), its taken care of now though.

I don't know. It'll be interesting to hear what hypertech has to say about things. I made sure my port was extra clean when I installed the chip. It was actually kinda funny when I installed it because after I put it in things were fine than after I placed the panal back on my truck started acting goofy. My luck it's meerly coincidental. Thanks for the reply!
