I bought a 13W7 Today, what did I get myself into?

I'm just excited so I thought I'd share w/someone that I bought JL's top of the line biggest sub. I've gone from W0 to W3 to W6 to Eclipse stuff and now back to the W7. I'm really interested to check the performance on these things.

Anyone ever hear or see any of these babies close up? I should get it by the end of next week and then it's designing and building a badass box!

Also, amp suggestions are welcome for a 1000Wrms subwoofer. I'm looking at Rockford 1500bd, JL 1000/1, and Eclipse DA7122. Let me know, thanks!

Get a PG Tantrum 1200.1, better than all the amps you mentioned there.

All of those amps will be fine. And I have heard the 13w7 and you will be very impressed. Which organ did you sell to buy it?

Isn't it true though that the Adire Audio Brahma 12" and the Resonant Engineering x.. 12" will outgun the JL 13W7 in output and SQ?

I was considering a W7 a while ago but I'm leaning toward one of the off-brands.

i bet it depends on who's testing..... JL will say there stuff is superior and the other inferior, as Adire will say theirs is superior to JL....

For the price, the Brahman, ED A series, and the x.. are better than the W7. The big arguement now is between the W7 and the MTX 9500 because they are virtually the same thing.

Please do not goin with the PG tantrum. If you spent that much money on the sub, spend that much more on the amp and go with the jl 1000/1. It will put out the regulated 1000w with no problem to that sub. The sub was virtually designed with that sub in mind. JL is extremely good audio equipment. Now that you spent that much on the sub, go with their amp... You can't beat the combo. The 12XXX and the Brahma will both blow the w7 away in spl but wont touch it in SQ. The w7 was custom machined to give the best SQ money can buy.. Or so they say anways.. W7 regaurdless is a badass sub. You'll enjoy it.

Well I'm actually hoping to spend <$600 on the amp, which is not going to be easy but I think I can accomplish the feat w/out too many problems (gotta love insiders.) Many ppl do say the x.. will edge the W7 in SPL, but I'm not exactly an SPL freak nor do I compete; I just wanted a larger woofer than a 10" to throw in when I get the urge to go bump bump bump every so often

Right now I have an Eclipse SW8102.4 w/a Rockford 500a2 and I love the setup; it just doesn't push hard enough w/the deep dirty rap beats (don't know where this bug came from!)

The Tantrum amp is 100 times better than the JL. The Tantrum amp will also put out close to if not more than 1500 watts. I have one that does 1479 and another that does 1521.

Yup Phoenix Gold has the best amps for sure.

well I just managed to get a JL 1000/1 for pretty cheap so I guess I'll have to suffer w/a JL engineered amplifier. I guess I'll be my own judge, never hearing anything JL has made in the amp dept. I probably won't have everything done for about 3weeks, but when I do I'll be sure to post pics.

the brahma will blow away the w7 in sq and spl, it hold 6 world records in SQ so far.

Let's all try to be friends here and remember that the audio industry is greatly subjective; if you have a brahma and want to drive up to Upper Michigan I'd be glad to listen to it though

Yea, the brand to the box, amp, materials, wires all kinds of variables have to be factored in. Who knows, hell once I had two 8" Radio Shack DVC's run off a RS 1000w amp that sounded great. Got them free, did not spend anymoney on them, So.

yes, I'm biased, but if you had my opinion the brahmas really don't want 1600 watts, they will smell. give them 1000 watts and thy never will, infact they'll want a tad more.

th XXXs on the other hand amaze me as far as SPL, the VC never gets hot enough to smell, grealy due to the fact they use aluminum instead of coper in the brahma.

if only brahma would use aluminum.

I actually sat in a Sport Trac with one 13W7 powered by a JL 1000/1 amp. I couldn't stay in there for over five seconds because the sub was taking all breathing air away It actually made the roof of the truck go up about an inch and made the paint crack. I had a 10W7 in my Explorer, and that was almost too much for me. I might be in the market for some IDMax, Brahamas, or probably Focals. Good luck with the sub!
