1999 Ford Explorer Sport
Hello, I'm Richard and I'm new to the forums. I recently bought a 1999 Explorer Sport with a 4.0 SOHC and while the engine mostly runs well, apart from a slight shudder I can feel in the steering along with an audible soft, subtle clunk, and some visible reconstruction work that has so far proved to be rather shoddy. My current list of problems are as follows:
-The aforementioned engine shudder (still working on a diagnosis.)
-Overhead console compass and temperature doesn't appear to turn on.
-The sunroof control sometimes cuts out (and is promptly smacked in to submission. I'm looking for a more permanent fix.)
-The sunroof has a minor leak. So far it is just seepage but I don't want it to get worse.
-The rear hatch window hinge has the screw from the luggage rack instead of the proper bolt. This has led to the threads inside the hinge to become stripped, leading me to believe I need to get a new hinge.
-No tool to lower the spare tire.
-The cargo/ back seat light bulb that is supposed to come on when the door is opened, doesn't. The bulb appears to be fine, but I should be getting a replacement to make sure.
-The key lock on the back hatch is broken and won't budge.
-The cruise control pads are broken.
-The horn doesn't work and blows new fuses within a second of them being replaced. I may end up chasing a ghost with this one.
-Some of the speakers are blown/dying.
-And the smallest problem of all, dog hair everywhere. It's practically woven into the carpet.

Problems I have fixed so far:
-The lever on the drivers seat to allow access to the back seat.
-The center console. Originally it wouldn't close.
-The map reading lamps.
-The rear hatch lock actuators. It wouldn't unlock.
-The rear end shocks have been replaced. (I had to borrow the tool to lower the spare.)
-Replaced the master cylinder.

So here I am. I've got my work cut out for me, and I'm hoping that I can find some advice on how to fix some of the above listed problems on here. I'll also be providing photos later of some of the problems so that y'all can see what I'm looking at.

Welcome to the forum! I think you might have a big wiring issue on your hands as well as a few front end issues. There are plenty of write ups on how to solve all the issues you are experiencing just by doing some simple searches through the site.

Welcome to the Site, the Search Bar does help . You just normally have to go through a few pages of things that are some-what related , Good luck with the 4.0sohc , i heard those motors are notorious for Failure when not maintained Properly , Good luck With It !
