The other day I replaced a resister pack on my blower motor. I just had the high speed and no low speeds for ventilation. Well that's fixed, but now my a/c compressor will not kick in. I'm sure I bumped something, or blew a relay or fuse. The Ford dealership wants 70 bucks just to hook it up to a machine and then tell me what part I need to buy. I would rather put 70 bucks in a trash bag and light it on fire then have them go though there routine.
So looking for free advice I thought I would see what everyone has to say here. :) Outside of the obvious I have rechecked my connections that I had disconnected several times after the installation of that resister pack. When the engine is running and you hit the a/c button you don't hear the a/c compressor engage. Nothing happens, the rpm's stay the same and the voltage drain stays the same(as far as the gage in the dash), but the a/c light comes on. Anyways thanks for any help. It's a 4.0 DOCH by the way.

One thing to have checked is if you are low on R-12 or R-134a whichever you have in you unit, the compressor will not turn on.

There is a pressure switch that senses low refridgerent and will not let the compressor turn on. The switch is on the accumlator/drier, which is next to the fuse block on the passenger side on my 1992. On one of the hoses you will see a vala similar to a tire valve with a cap on it, that goes to the accumlator/drier(which is a round canister about 4inch across and 6 inch high) the swicth is a two wire device unplug it and jump the the two contacts in the wire harness connetor with a paper clip or piece of wire. If the compressor turns on ,dash controls must be on for ac, then the unit is low on refridgerent.
My 92 ac started to slowly blow warmer air over the last 3 months until the compressor would not come on anymore. There was a slow leak and lost refridgerent , original r12 system. I bought a conversion kit form Advanced auto parts, formally parts america, its compatible with r12. You screw on two ports one high side one low side, put in two cans r134a compressore started cycling, put in one can leak sealer, 1 can compressor oil. Blowing cold air for 2 weeks so far (knock on wood). Wife is happy again, my cost in the kit about $60 bucks. If anyone wants the exact kit information I can post it some other day.;

Last time I let some idiot mechanic work on my car and steal my money.. he knocked something loose and the compressor wasnt engaging.. i dont remember what... But it was probably that pluggy thinging on the compressor...
