Does anyone know of where you can purchase a cold air induction kit for a 98 5.0???.....ALL I can find is one for the 4.0 Six .....K/N does not have one...Volant nadda....any help?????

I am wanting to beef up the motor a bit for towing. Has 174K motor is extremely strong, but want to ensure no problems going down the road...Alrgoing to replace the front rotors with Slotted/Drilled and ceramic pads....pulled all 4 cats out and replaced with 2 .... exhaust into a flowmaster ....sounds very good when getting on it ....(watch that fuel needle move), but still looking for more power out of it ....cold air induction will help a bit two....New wires and plugs already....

Any help appreciated! ...

Regards

Looks like MAC does have one for 169....Airaid does not have a CAI system...just a thottle body spacer (anyone used that?....do we have the clearance with the hood closed?) and an air filter .....so MAC wins this one ....I saw the Torquemonster headers...wonder what it would cost for install?

Yep, found the Airmax ....You know I have been looking for like 2 years for a CAI and just joined this Explorer club and BAM! here ya go ......sure wish I found this site alooong time ago...

Going to go with the Airmax or MAC...MAC is much cheaper ..Airmax looks pretty sharp in powder coated Red, but for 249? ....but does come with a K/N filter where it appears MAC does not ...well that is worth 40 - 60 bucks alone! ...I think Headers will be the last thing I do ....600 for the headers and probably 200 to install ....bit steep for me at this point ......would love to use a tuner, but again 300 for those.....maybe I can find one used for a 98 Explorer .....

Love this site and everyones help .....will post a pic of my rather stock looking XLT in the near future....

Save the money and get the MAC you can also clean and oil the mac filter, or use the money you saved and get a good filter like an amsoil air filter. You don't have to oil those, just vacuum the outside once or twice a year and your good to go.

I checked MSD and can't find the Coil Packs for a 98 5.0 ....they show a picture then ref the 4.6L (item nr 8241) ...can I get a picture of your eng compartment? ....looking for the coil packs, igntion and your CAI ....what else can I do to bump HP?

I don't think the coil packs really did much for me, just a slightly smoother idle. The 4.6 coils is what I'm running. The headers and a good custom computer tune were my biggest gains at the track. $400 may sound like a lot, but the extra power and much firmer shifts were worth it.

ive seen a 2nd gen with headers and it really seems to make a difference, they are pricey, but i would guess worth it.
anyone with a little auto experience should be able to install them, its not too hard, just takes forever, but it your persistent you should be able to handle it.

if you wanna go with an intake, just buy a maf adapter off ebay and a cone filter, then search the forum, there are plenty of ppl who build little boxes to go around the filter that let in cooler air, or build you own snorkel.

The only thing I have done to mine so far is: had transmission rebuilt and added shift kit....only explorer in town that will bark it between 1st and 2nd ...., pulled all the cats off and used 2 smaller one + Flowmaster exhaust...dumped the stock air box, got and adapter and running a K/N filter...New plugs and wires (stock - will do MSD or Excel next time around)...don't need firmer shifts....still gotta git rid of the Octane knock or ping...going to clean my MAS today....very nice Explorer...what with 175K and still running quite strong...my front grill is a bit faded, probably need to replace or paint..
