I can't think of anything I don't like about my new 2014 Explorer Sport,,,yet.

I did the intro thing here last week just before I got my Sport.

My salesman delivered it to me late that afternoon, 9-18-2014 right to my apartment. A little over a week and ~700 miles later, I'm as happy as a sack full of puppies. Mind you, I did my homework on the Sport, I sort of knew what kind of mileage to expect. This coming from an old Georgia boy that has never had anything this nice and sporty.

I'm an industrial/machine (PLC/HMI for you nerds) programmer by trade, construction electrician when I was younger. When I first sat in it, I thought crap, now I gotta learn another programming language. Not at all, the controls and screen set ups are quite intuitive as long as you remember that computers are stupid and you have to tell them everything you want it to do. Don't be afraid to explore the menus, it won't break.

Over the last week, ~700 miles, I've averaged 18.6mpg according to the trip computer. I'll start logging it by hand after 1k. That really is a mix of city/open road driving within the Tampa Bay, FL area. I break-in a new vehicle like I'm gonna drive it, that being pretty much light footed most of the time but will stomp on it every now and then just for the thrill and to not let it run along at a steady RPM all the time. I want that piston to reach its full stroke,,, ;)

Some folks have complained about the width of the driver compartment, that being not able to put your left arm up on the door/window sill for a prop. Really? I'm only 5'9" tall and it's no problem for me. Reaching out to access you bank ATM? Get out and walk a few feet, sheesh.

I read through the WeatherTech/Husky thread and got lots of good info. I decided to stick with what I knew, that being WeatherTech on two previous vehicles. Got floor liners and side window air deflectors ordered. Driver and front passenger windows scheduled to be tinted next week.

Not like you guys haven't seen one but, where can I post a pic of my new ride? Can I post it here inline or do I need to post it in the gallery?

I'm glad I found this forum. You guys have been a big help already.

I'm 6'2" and I have the seat up as far as it can go, and there is no way to comfortably put my left arm up on the window sill. And leaning out the window at the drive thru bank window is a real stretch. The windows are too short, is the main reason for this. Not a good design, at all.

I'm 6'3" and don't really have an issue at drive thrus or to badge in to my work lot. However, I'll admit it would be uncomfortable to rest my arm sitting out the window. I have this issue with all modern cars, however; belt-lines are sky high due to both style and safety regs.

If you're looking for a place to simply rest your arm - you might get a small pillow or something to stuff in the chasm between the door and the seat. Seriously that gap could house the grand canyon.

At 5'9" and apparently shrinking (used to be 5'10.5"), I also found that trying to rest my arm on the window sill of my previous Explorer was not a comfortable thing to do. The sill was too high. However, the MKT is a totally different story and it is 100% better. It's all in the design.

Yeah, 6'1 and resting arm on window sill not comfortable. Perhaps if you are 6'6, but then your seat may be too far back.

Still, one of those quirky things that is not a big deal for me.

Thanks Peter. I did join the Elite membership a few days ago but I haven't read all the stickys in the New Member section. My bad, I should know better. Thanks!

The reason might very well be that I've been driving small vehicles since before 1990 with the exception of a 1995 F-250 and am just amazed at the space I have now. I won't lie and tell you that I hang my elbow out the window but it rests on the sill comfortably enough that I can still use my left hand to steer on main thoroughfares. I certainly can see where it might be a problem trying to use an ATM or any drive up device but to me, that's not an issue. I need all the exercise I can get being a code jockey sitting behind a computer all day. ;)
