Contacts in the multi-function switch.

My Bronco II used to do that when the bulb was blown I think, or maybe it was the relay? Both easy to check

Your multi-function switch has bit the big one. It's a fairly expensive part. What I would do until you get it fixed is to drive with the steering wheel in as far of an upward position as possible. They seem to buzz most at the lowest setting.

I think there *may* have been a saftey recall on this because it could cause a fire. You may want to check with your dealership.

Ok the buzz does not all ways come on, its just intermediately it does it. Also its not just an buzz noise,, you can feel the viberation as you click the turn signal.

So you think there is an recal on it??

Thanks

Mine is doing the same thing only when I click it left. I had just written it off to the multifunction switch not engaging properly. Is this a safety issue?????

Yep, it's the turn signal switch. It's not hard to replace, took me about 30 minutes, but I also took the cluster bezel off to make it a bit easier to finagle it on and off.

I replaced mine because it started to flake out on the right signal, and then the left side started buzzing the relay. and the Washer switch had become non-functional. You can feel the buzz because the turn signal flasher is mounted on the knee bolster under the dash, fairly close to your knees.

Went to O'reillys to get one and they charged me 60 bucks for it. Texstar Ford in Stephenville wanted the same for it.

There's not a recall on it as far as I know.

Texan01,

so the part is called "turn signal switch"?

If so I will call O'reillys today :)

I had the same problem with my 99 Sport.

If you tilt the steering coulomb to the lowest setting, and engaged the signal switch to the momentary contact position (not fully engaged) you will hear a electrical short sounding like a relay trying to energize.

So after learning it was the tilt setting affecting it, I would the position the tilt to the second lowest setting, and gradually the problem was apparent at this setting also. It continued to get worse until it was repaired.

I had this complaint along with a few others that Ford replaced for free. Bought the truck from Ford after only owning it for two months. Once repaired it hasn’t happened since. The dealer said the wiring to the electrical connector under the dash was fried and they replaced the connector and cleaned up the wiring along with it.

I now have no worries about an electrical fire under my dash.

Cheers,
Jason

im almost positive there was a recall on that part, if not its not very hard to replace, nor is it expensive.

Called my local dealership and claims no recall for it.

So I called CS @ Ford and they basically said GO FU*K yourself and go pay for it if you want it fixed.

How nice of them.

I guess if it ever does catch on fire..... this will be fords next complaint as the firestone issue was. boy ol boy

I had the same problem but when doing a left turn. It was also intermittant. I used to have to turn the wheel full lock to the right and left to "temporarily" fix it (so I thought).

Try removing the cover and at the harness block next to the hazard switch, push or wiggle in the wires/pins. It turned out that the plastic keeper that held one of the wires in disintergaded and the wire, a light green one, would slip out. The open connection probably makes the relay whack out and buzz/vibrate.

The wire also had no slack at all so I figured that using the tilt on the column must pull and push the pin in and out.

Since the pin keeper in the block was broken, I pushed the pin in as far as possible and then zip tied it well to the wires next to it.

Look for the white/light blue wire for yours.

the multifunction switch (what is bad on yours) was recalled on my vehicle for sure. i don't know what years were in the recall, but 99 was one of them!

what year is your truck?
