I loaned a relative money to buy this Explorer for his wife. She then proceeded to let the insurance lapse and then got drunk and rammed it into the rear of a haywagon.

So I got it back and now that relative has seen his wife get 2 more DUI's and he got fired and the short version is that they are never going to pay me for the truck. I thought about fixing it and making a driver out of it and selling it. It has a frame tweak and to do it right will cost far more than it's worth even if I call in favors and use the local frame machine myself.

So then I thought about parting it out.

But this morning in the shower I thought it might be cool to make it into a 4 wheeling demon. I had hardcore CJ's back when I was a kid. I rock climbed before it was popular. I did my own spring-over conversions. I mud bogged. I hillclimbed. I always figured I'd get a CJ for my boy when he got older and we'd do that. Currently we 4 wheel a bit in my 97 Hardbody Nissan KingCab 4x4 but it's a nice truck and the 4 wheeling I have in mind is fairly destructive to a vehicle.

Soooooooo... I got a 92 XLT sitting behind my barn. Might be a good candidate for a 4 wheeling machine.

I've never been impressed with the 4 wheeling image of an Explorer and don't know what to expect.

I do know, though, that with enough wheel travel, swaybar disconnects, and locking diffs that anything has potential.

So how do you guys think the Explorer ranks as a wheeler?

Oh its a BEAST, no in all seriousness me personally am quite impressed with its offroad capabilities, now granted its no cj but these things were obivously built around the grocier getter concept but that aside I love it and there are not bazillions of lifted x's running around town so you get the uniquness going for ya. I say keep it and turn it into a bogging machine ;) Oh yeah welcome to the site!

welcome......go brose through the photo gallery and then decide if you think an explorer can become a tru off-road rig...i bet you eill change your mind ;)
