I have a '99 XLT 4x4 and I'm getting that infamous clunk/rattle/squeak/grind from the front end. Sway bar looked solid but I went ahead and replaced the bushings and both end links as I noticed they were shot, as well as the tie rod ends. Of course none of that made a #### hair worth of difference so I've narrowed it down to ball joints and hubs based on the symptoms and what I've read on other threads as well as having a few mechanics check it out.

The truck has 137k on stock hubs, CV's, etc. (also seen more than enough 4x4 action:D) and I was wondering if there would be any damage to the CV axle from driving with sh*tty hubs for so long..coupled with the way I abuse the truck lol. Hubs are already gonna cost me an arm and maybe both legs so I'm hoping I don't have to ##### with the CV's too. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!:)

:eek:130,000miles on stock hubs it seems if I even splash mine in water there toast, you might be ok on the CV's grab the center of the CV and check for any play up and down side to side, also maybe go to a junk yard and get a couple used ones if you think they're going out being that you 4x4 and such.

I have 170k on my 98 X and it seems to have a nice clunk. My clunk goes away for the most part in winter time. My X may have the stock hubs on there. i don't know...

being 20 yrs old and driving a 4x4 it's hard to resist a little fun lol. But yea with 137k I'm almost certain the hubs were shot a long time ago. Would have had them replaced by now but its hard to keep a few hundred $$ saved with this awesome economy..

if it starts shaking on the expressway and/or u can hear a noise that coincides with the revolution of the tire then yes ur hubs are done. with 170K i would imagine they've been replaced once before..if not then I would definitely consider it.
