is it an alternator noise or spark plug noise. is it coming through the speakers. if it's just the sound of the engine you hear inside your car, then get dynamat or something.

if it's coming throught the speakers, check your ground. also check where your wires are run.

my wires are fine

and so is my ground. the sound is coming from my speakers. when i rev my engine the noise gets louder

let me guess, do you have your rca cables running along side your power cable?? if so thats most likely what is causing it

um.....

no. i know what i am doing . but i can't fix this

bad engine noise

Are your RCA cables running along the passanger side? If they are you are probobly getting your alternator whine from there. If not the most common cause of it is a bad ground. I have mine under the seat. Also did you tie your your deck's ground into the factory harness? This is also supposed to be a weak ground. Hope any of this helps.

just a note on the passenger side that it where the factory amp power wire is.

thanks m brooks

appreciate the tip. i didn t know that. thanks. happy 420

check your ground on your hu and/or amp.
I had the same problem. It drove me crazy until i tore down my radio.
Matt

How are your gains set? I bet if you lower then the whine will go away or be less noticeable. I have a friend with a cougar that has engine whine and if he lowers his gains the noise goes away but the radio wont go as loud.

the grounds

i rerun an additional ground from my battery under my hood to the frame and still no luck. the ground on my head unit is fine. no one who owns an explorer ever had this problem? i am going crazy here. i am about to just rip the whole thing out.

Yes woody9898 if you read my post above i said my friend had this problem with his cougar and i also had this problem when i was using a FM Modulator for my cd changer before i got a sony head unit. I fixed it by lowering the gain on the CD changer.
