your remote battery might be low i have a 96 and my remote takes a good press of the button and there's a good 2-3 seconds before it unlocks/locks

Lots of problems with the doors on the 2nd gen (been there, done that, still dealing with them).

Search the archives. Lots of helpful threads there.

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed your thread, and moved it into the stock 95-01 section. Try a different remote, and test the battery in your old remote.

just simply check the battery, mine does the same thing when the remote is cold then it wont work, but i havnt replaced the battery yet either

while you're checking the battery go ahead and clean the whole unit out with some window cleaner. sometimes the button contacts like to get gummed
