I have a slight leak in my transmission around the passenger side axle shaft. It seems the carrier bearing mount has broken. How do I now check my transmission fluid level to see how much has leaked out?

Warm up the engine and transmission, then turn off car. You have to move the air intake tube/ air box to get to the dipstick. You might get lucky without doing that and be able to access the dipstick under the tube/box without removal.

You need to check the transmission fluid while it is warm and the engine is running.

If you look down below the air box on the front drivers side of the engine you will see the transmission fluid cap. The dip stick is connected to this cap. Here are the instructions from the owners manual for my 2016 but yours should either be the same or quite similar.

Note: Check the fluid level with the engine
running and the transmission in park (P).
1. Make sure that your vehicle is on level
ground.
2. Rotate the automatic transmission
fluid cap in a counterclockwise
direction. See Under Hood Overview
(page 279).
3. Remove the cap and dipstick and wipe
it with a clean, lint-free cloth. Replace
the cap and dipstick and remove it
again to check the fluid level.
4. Make sure that the fluid level is
between the MIN and the MAX marks.
If the fluid level is at the MIN mark, add
fluid immediately. See Adding
Transmission Fluid.
5. Replace the automatic transmission
fluid cap and dipstick. Turn it clockwise
until you feel a strong resistance.

Thanks don't have a dipstick under the cap. I have a fill plug by one of the axles a dealership buddy of mine hooked me up with directions

Page 335/6 of your Owner's Manual shows the location of the transmission dipstick on a 2013 Explorer. If yours doesn't have a dipstick, then you have the 6F35 transmission which calls for the dealer to add fluid.

I got the .pdf that the dealership uses on the transmissions without the dipstick. Basically you get it warmed up good. Put it in neutral, then slowly run though the gears and in Park you check it while running with the fill plug beside one of the axle shafts. To add use the fill hole on top.
