I have an issue with my 2000 Ranger.

While driving, my 2000 ranger started making an odd sound, this sound began at 2000 RPM and stopped at about 2500 RPM. i then shut down and restarted the engine to see if that fixes the problem, but i lose A\C control. all i got now is cool air comming from the defrost and floor vents. can any one offer any explanation and remedy for this? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oddly, Rangers have a vacuum powered climate control system

It's possible that you have a vacuum leak in the climate controls.

The first place to check is under the hood, and make sure the vacuum hose that runs from the accumulator to the firewall is intact. The accumulator is a roundy near-spherical thing about 4-5 inches diameter near the front and slightly to the right side. The small diameter hose (about 3/8") that runs from this accumulator to the firewall could easily be damaged. Just take a short piece of fuel line hose and use this as a splice. Push the damaged ends of the vacuum line into either end of the splice hose. Bingo, the dash controls should be working again.

If that's not it then the dash needs to be opened up and the glove box removed so that the several vacuum lines running from the vent selector switch can be traced for leaks. A repair manual picture will help.
