2000 Edie Bauer
Hello Everyone. I am a new member here, and feel privaledged to have found this site with many members in the same situation as myself. Well let me start with my story (sorry if it is long winded as I don,t know what else todo). I have a 2000 Ford Explorer Edie Bauer that I purchased used. It has 255,000km on it and recently the trans. failed. I removed the oil pan and found a blown vb gasket , and a small amount of filings. I replaced the vb gasket with the new updated gasket, new fluid and filter,( torqued valve body to spec. as per Glaciers procedure I had found in an earlier post) I found the trans would slowly move in reverse but would then slip and rev up, only had first low. Trouble codes po708 and po1702. I removed the trans from the truck and dismantled it for inspection. I found the discs, and internals, bands etc. all to be in exceptional shape with no heat discolouration. I did find that the planetary, drum, discs, etc. in behind the front pump COMPLETELY TRASHED. I ordered all new parts from Ford to repair the damage, and assembled the trans. to what I thought is correct as I am a licenced mechanic, but haven,t done any trans. work much. Got the truck all back together with new filter and Mercon4 (also rinsed out the valve body with brake clean prior to assy. aswell as trans. cooler.) Long story short, when cold, trans shifts into gear forward nice and firm, but revs up to 3000 plus rpm and sometimes neutrals when road tested, O.D. light flashes when this happens, but only the two codes I mentioned comes up. Reverse kinda works, but neutals, have to play with the accelerator. Towed it to a trans shop that was recommended. He reported that the valve body (according to him, and servos) checked out o.k., and he believes that the problem is internal, and could fix it for a quote of $1800. Problem is I don,t have this kind of money as I am the only one working in our house-hold right now. I have lost sleep over this, I,m frustrated, and don,t know what else todo. I had the trans. guy put it back together and put it outside. Now owe him money for his time and have accomplished NOTHING!!!! What now, HELP PLEASE!!??. Thank you...Rob.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your post into its own thread. Did you replace the EPC solenoid or any other electric parts during the rebuild process? Did you check the transmission pressure, and the EPC pressure with a 0 - 300 PSI test gauge? Did you check the internal wiring harness with a continuity meter?

Just another quick question as I can,t afford this tranny nonesense right now. My friend has offered me his 96 (VERY RUSTY) taken off the road Explorer, with a good transmission to help me out. Mine as mentioned is a 2000. It will bolt up to my SOHC engine as I understand, but will it drive as I know the computers are different. What will I expect, or will have todo to make it work as this is an option for me!!?? Thank you...Rob. P.S.I TRIED TO FIND THE TRANS. SWAP SECTION, BUT WOW, THE INFO. AND POSTS GO ON FOREVER.
