I need some help. When i go to start the 91 Explorer the fuel pump wasn't working. I didn't hear it spinning. I changed the 30amp fuse in the bus bar under the hood for the fuel pump. I went to start it again and I heard the fuel pump. But all it did was spin. Then the fuse blew. So I went to the relay and replaced it and another fuse. It started and I thought all was well. Then the fuse blew and the relay. What is next? I pulled the steering cover and checked the ignition switch it's fine. Oh , yeah I also checked the switch under the carpet on the passenger side , and it was not tripped. Now what do I do? The only thing I did about a month ago was put a new alternator on. I also changed the plugs and put new plug wires on.

A bad fuel pump can cause that....or wiring to the fuel pump...

I'd say you have a bad pump.

Mine did the exact same thing one night in the rain. I was lucky enough to find the problem and fix it before the sun came up.
It cut out on me on the interstate on ramp and wouldn't fire, just kept spinning the starter. I found the fuel pump fuse blown and changed it. It started up again, but when I put it in gear and hit the accelerator, it died again. Another blown fuse.
I got down in the rear on the wet ground and found the wires coming out of the gas tank -- it's on the driver's side. I then followed them a short distance until I found one of the wires -- I think it was red -- had rubbed the insulation off against the frame and was shorting out. I just covered it with electrical tape and drove home. Viola!
I don't know if this is your problem, but I would suggest inspecting the wires.
