Can anyone PLEASE tell me...
I have an 06 mountaineer luxury awd 5r55s transmission... is an 04 explorer tranny compatible???
Im doing the swap myself and have mine it already but need to know for sure what's compatible

I'm assuming since it is a 5r55s, that we are talking about the 4.0 SOHC? I think the "S" stands for select shift. I believe the 04's were still the 5r55w (W = Wide gear ratio) without the select shift option.

So in answer to your questions, they will bolt up, but I am not sure they are electronically compatible.

there was a W and S.... W was for wide gearing and S was for Standard... the mustangs got W and S was peppered across multiple makes... they might both bolt up to your engine but the PCM might throw a fit

So the S and W have the same bell housing? I've read of someone putting the 4R70W behind their 4.6. So does that mean one of these 5Rs will fit behind a 5.0? With the addition of a stand alone system controlling the transmission, I can see this as being a future add on whenever mine is out of...
