I have a 96 ford explorer sport 5 speed manual 4.0 liter 4wd. I got it stuck in the mud the other day and my buddy was having a hard time pulling me out so we hooked a chain around both leaf springs and was jerkin it while i was in 4wd in reverse. After one of the tugs the transmission started making a clattering sound and wont work sounds like its not locking in all the way. At first it wouldnt go in 1st thru 5th or reverse now it goes through the gears fine weather its in 4 wd or 2 wd except for reverse and it still clatters when you try using it. I also noticed the gear shifter feels looser more play in it and it makes the noise sometimes that you would here if the clutch wasnt in all the way when you shift but goea into gear easily. Any thoughts on what i might have tore up?
