Somebody do me a favor. Crawl under your truck and take a picture for me. You shouldn't even have to jack it up or anything.

On the passenger side, the plate that the u-bolts go through to hold the leaf pack to the axle, there is a bracket that the parking brake cable goes through. I need a picture of that bracket so I can tell which way it should be facing and at what angle. Mine is bent all the way back to the u-bolts from hitting a rock.

I'm not sure what years have this bracket, but any other '97 will. Probably all years will have it.

Thanks.

Mine did that too. A grinder and some zipties and it's as good as new :D

I want a picture of how it's supposed to look though, that way I can tell if that was the reason my parking brake on that side froze up and grenaded.

Here is mine on my '97 Sport

WOW Robert yours looks like its brand NEW!
Mine is all beat to Sh!te! I have had to bend the
tab that the bracket bolts to back a few times already!

It's all in where you place your tires :) Mines never been touched, yet my Explorer has seen its fair share of offroading. It also helps having 3 of the leaf spacers removed to bring it up 1 1/2".

Looks like I found out why the parking brakes locked up then.

Mine:

the red is where the bottom of the bracket is now, all the way up against the u-bolt.
the blue is where to top of the bracket is now, pointing out to the front of the vehicle instead of up
the green is where my cable is now, moved way out from where it is supposed to be

Anyone foresee a problem with me just cutting the bracket off and letting the cable hand freely? That way it wont' happen again.

Obviously you use your Ex in a different manner than I do, but when I lowered mine, it was getting in the way so I removed the bracket and never put it back on. I just zip tied it out of the way.
