Alright guys,

I got the new 4.0 In the X a few weeks ago and there is a bad lifter that keeps on a tickin. Well I started to consider a stage-1 cam from 4.0performance.com. Has anyone ever bought stuff from him before? I sent him an email a few days ago and he hasn't returned it, so I don't know what to think. Has anyone bought one of the cams? I asked him how much power increase we would be talking about here. I'm thinking it is a Comp Cam.

If I get all of this on the X..how fast you think she would be?

24lb injectors (already on)
upgraded Throttle Body
upgraded MAF Sensor
Intake kit
Duals
Chip
Cam

Think that would put me atleast around the 220hp mark? Because that is what is planned for it and I just wanted to see what you think it would probably put out.

Any thoughts or comments would be great.

Thanks!

Ok here's my take on it:

1) I'm not sure that 4.0Liter Performance is still around. MAybe they are but I am not sure.

2) Dual exhaust. It might be better to go with a single out 2.5" mandrel bent pipe, rather than duals with the 4.0 OHV engine. Do a search here and form your own opinion..

3) Chip. Make sure you chip is programmed for the new MAF **and** the higher lb injectors.

4) how fast will it be. There's only so much you can do with a 4,500 lb truck with all the aerodynamics of a brick. But if the cam and chip and all that are setup right, you might get 220 on the engine, (not at the rear wheels).
Even with these mods, don't expect to beat any decently fast car though...my stock buick can smoke the sh*t out of my modded Explorer.

5) the main restriction in the 4.0 is in the heads; valves are not too great. A quality port and polish and bore job would really open it up, problem is finding a place that will do the job right, and then getting a chip and cam that will work well with that.

Good luck with it! And remember Speed = Money

I ordered a set of heads a few weeks ago and they arrived like two days later. Maybe he changed his email or something. He is also a member here (Doug904) so maybe he'll see this post.

Doug is usually very good about returning messages. If he doesn't show up here try sending him a PM.

And they're right about true duals, stick with 2.5 or 2.75 single exhaust. And I would at least see about getting the heads worked on a bit.

I'm guessing you may have around 160 hp at the wheels after those mods (stock is 120). You may lose about .6-.7 from your 1/4 mile.

Hello,

I'm sorry for the delays but as it states on my main page on the site the server company I'm using is having some issues and I cannot check my mail on a regular basis. I also get alot of mail so please allow some time for a responce. I've went threw my emails tonight and replied to about 45 of them,it took me around 4 1/2 hours to answer everyone I could so please allow a little time for a reply.

With the mods you have listed, which I don't remember seeing in an email tonight, you won't be near the 220 range. Like before mentioned the big restriction on the 4.0 is in the heads and next the cam. Yes a better cam like the 410 or stage 1 will give you a boost in power but without the rest of the equation your not gonna get the most from it. I would say with the list you have posted about 190-200 at the flywheel. The next problem will be the transmission.

Thanks Doug904.
