I just found out that i need to renew my tags for my ranger, but before i can do that I have to pass emissions. I was about to go get that done until my friend stoped me and told me that if i go I will fail because of my engine check light is on. So i went to checker auto and they brought up code
"p1309". How do i fix this???

what dose the code mean? they can look in ther computers an tell you.

That code is telling you that you have a problem with the CMP sensor (Camshaft Position - located where the Distributor would be if it had one). Either the sensor is bad, its installed wrong, the wiring is bad or the PCM is bad. Probably the first option.

if i took it in a shop how much would it cost to fix the problem.

If its the Camshaft Position Sensor, the part costs $65 ($110 list). Taking a WAG (wild ass guess) about an hour for labor, so $150 - 200 bucks.

If its the PCM, the part costs $300 - $360 bucks, about the same (WAG) for labor.
