I have a 98 Ranger with a 3 in lift and 33 in tires on it.! I want to put a straight axel up front, but don't know what will fit. I've been doing a little research on it and I see that everyone is useing a late 70's model bronco front axel. Now my question is how easy/hard would it be to swap them out and would I need to up grade anything else, as in my transfer case since it will be turning something bigger and would it help if I swap out the back axle too to give me better mpg?

or a jeep axle would work from the same era. and the lug pattern would be the same as the older ford axles.
if you can try to get one that is geared the same as your truck. sometimes you can get lucky. other wise you will have to regear the axle before you put it in.

do as much setup as you can before you dive in and start the axle swap. the more that is done up front the less hassle and down time you will have when the surgery starts

Try going over to http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum They can probably help alot.
