Hey guys I am going to be swapping out my crappy stock speakers with some Pioneers and I need some help, as I know hardly anything about the electrical and audio system.

First off how do I take apart the door panel? I have read articles in here about how to take them off for a 02 explorer but thats slightly different I assume it's just pulling the two screws out by the handle and then pulling up on the bottom piece, but if someone could confirm that, it would be a lot of help.

Second I want to just continue using the factory radio unit, should I buy a wire harness for it as well if the speakers I am going to be installing are coaxial?

Finally how do I remove the factory radio unit? On all the Honda's and Toyota's I have worked on in the past there is some main screw somewhere on the center console that allows it all to be removed and I dont see anything like that in my Mercury.

Any other tips or help you can give me would really be appreciated.
-Thanks

you dont need to mess with the radio or behind the dash to replace the door speakers. just get the door panel off, pull the old speaker, and splice into the 2 wires that went to the speaker. Easy as pie

Welcome!

Are the doors removed on a Merc the same way as they are on an Ex, 98xploder?

Wow thank you that really makes it incredibly easy. Anyone know about the doors? I do believe the removal would be the same as the explorer/exploder because they have the same basic door design. But if anyone knows where I can find that please let me know.

Yep, same for Merc's. But there's no need to unscrew the switch. It slips right thru the hole in the door where the wire comes thru.

BTW, polarity for speakers should be...

Left Front Speaker (+/-) orange/lt. green - lt. blue/white

Right Front Speaker (+/-) white/lt. green - dk. green/orange

Left Rear Speaker (+/-) gray/lt. blue - tan/yellow

Right Rear Speaker (+/-) orange/red - brown/pink

Oh, I needed that color scheme, thank you! I'd put the small fire from the other day in the WHOOPS section, but there's nothing to see now, no pics :) Lesson learned tho.

O thanks guys really appreciate it. Hopefully I'll just pull the door and splice the wires together sound bout right?
