I just got my truck, its a 95 xlt an no one around here (arnold,md until sep.25) can seem to help me get it off-road ready. I will be heading out to denver colorado on the 25 were I hope to break it in. I would like to lift it and overhaul the air manigment system. I'm new to the truck world and looking for all the wisdom I can get.

Thanks for you time!

Well you found the place. Use the Search button and plug away. You can read for days.

Lift= 4" and about $2,000.

There is plenty to do around Denver. Buy a 4x4 book with Trails around Denver. I would start on the Easy ones as they are sometimes a bit harder than you may think. Also some of the Moderate ones may be a bit easier. Go figure?

Welcome to your new obsession!

Hello fellow Coloradoan and a 95 xlt'er.

In some larger sporting goods stores there is a BLM map book. This looks like a large road atlas, but it is specific to Colorado. I use this one periodically. The forest service also has maps and often can give some guide lines to road difficulties.
As far a build ups there are great tips on a torsion bar lifting for about 2" combined with a shackle extension in the rear. Then 31" tires will fit with no rubbing(should) for most trails 31" are ok as long as you keep your head. If you want to go radical then bigger lifts are in the plan. I recommend also taking along a tool kit and extraction items. Basic tools I always take are a shovel pointed full size, High lift Jack, Tire chains(winter), tow strap, tree strap, portable air pump(12 v), and a assortment of hand tools. Experence will show you the way in what to take. 2 vehicals is usually a good Idea as well.
