I was working on my engine and it got late so I closed my hood to go get some dinner and it wouldn’t close like the latch wasn’t working it would come down it just wouldn’t take the hood so I win inside my truck and pulled the hood release and still my hood wouldn’t fit into my hood latch so I was wondering if any body could help me I wanted to know if there was any easy fix for this or if any body else have ever had this problem

I haven't had the issue on our explorer but our Chevy does it once in a while. In our case the latch is gummed up. The cable tries to unlatch the hood, but the latch does pull all the way. If I "hit" the hood when its down it unlatches.

If I happen to close the latch when the hood is open, pulling the hood release doesn't always open the latch so the hood will close. I just put a screw driver in the latch and open it that way (sometimes I need someone to pull the hood release when I do it).

If I clean up/grease the latch it works fine for a while but I really should replace it on our chevy.

This sometimes happens when you lean on the catch when working under the hood. The catch got tripped, you need to move it with a screw driver.

Pulling on the release in the truck will have no effect, nor will spraying it with anything. Nor will banging on the hood, or standing on it, or cursing (tried all those)...

In my experience, if it is gummed up, that will cause it to not want to release when you pull from inside the truck, but will not cause it to not close correctly.

I would spray it anyway, it really sucks when you can't get the hood open. I usually use WD-40, and spray it every time I do my door hinges (which is whenever they start squeaking, which seems like every month or two).

Mine was so gummed up at one point, I pulled one out at a junk yard, then sprayed mine with WD-40 just to see what would happen. I never needed to put the new one in, it's been perfect ever since.

But, if I lean on it (just did this a month ago), the hood won't close unless I move the catch with a screwdriver.
