I have a '00 Explorer Limited, and the driver's side heated seat has stopped working. For several weeks it would get really hot (so you'd have to turn it off after a few minutes), and then it simply stopped completely.

Does anyone have ideas on repairing this?
Is it part of any known recall? (I haven't found any yet)
Does anyone have the specific steps needed to replace the heating unit (or component)?
Any ideas on how costly this is?

btw: The passenger seat still works, and I was considering swapping out parts with it until I found the specific point of failure. Is this a good idea or should I not try this?

try checking fuses the heating element may have burnt out

I also have a 2000 limited with the same problem. The switch is getting power becasue the light comes on but yet there is no heat. The part I hate most is that my passenger side works fine so my girlfriend keeps her ass warm while i freeze mine off. Well not really freeze we live in Florida.

You live in Florida and you are upset about heated seats not working. Isn't it in the 70's now? I doubt you even get below zero, talk about freezing. Burr!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread in case mine ever have this problem.

I wished that I had heated seats. I wonder if it is an option or possibility to add it to leather, 98 Eddie Bauer seats?

so no one has every had the problem of the switch getting power but the seats not heating??

It could be the fuse, the heating element could be out, or you could have a loose wire somewhere.

check the current to the element with a multimeter

ya thats a good idea. where would i find those wires to test them and how much current should i be looking for. the light comes on in the switch so would it still be the fuse.

not sure there should be a connector going into the seat. just check for any current

:us:

Thanks, for some reason it didn't want to work for me the first time.
