So I know that Christmas is coming around and me being a normal 16 year old, I'm thinking of what i might want to ask for. Since I've had my 96 XLT I've wanted to modify it. How about a few suggestions on a lift? I don't know what would be the right thing for me seeing as how I don't know to much about these types of things. I might take it mudding every once in a while but no serious rock climbing. Basically I just want it to look big and clean. :D Anyways, any advice would be appreciated guys.

Thanks,
Justin

depends on how much lift. 2" you can just get new torsion keys up front or just crank the bolts, depends where they're at now. then in back, just get new shackles ($35). higher than that, you're looking at a superlift or trailmaster kit, but with a $2000 pice tag for 4" (not including a new driveshaft). personally, id ask for some bolt on mods, like an intake system or an exhaust system. if you give your price range, we can be more helpful . and welcome!

Thanks. My price range isn't to big, probably around $400-$500. I have been debating between add-a-leafs, shackles, or blocks. Which do you think would be the most sensible choice?. The torsion sounds good to me. What size tires could fit with that done?

add-a-leafs will give you a bit of a harsher ride, and are good if you have some rear sag and plan to tow. not a fan of blocking, plus explorers are spring under. with a two inch lift, you can get 31s, might have to trim if you have running boards. heres a tire chart Dead Link Removed. for $500 you can get 2" with a good $400 left to play with.

If you are just looking to go mudding then yes a body lift after wards would be the most sensible thing. With a 3" body lift and 2" of suspension you should be able to fit 33s.

Bull bar and Hella 500's!

That is just for the looks, though.

Regear if anything. But no engine mods would be "needed". It always helps, and a new intake would make it harder to suck water/mud up.

heres my 96' with warrior shackles, torsion bar wist, 3" body lift (pa853) just to give you an idea

The OHV always like mods, their kinda dogs of motors, but they run forever..... Explorers look sharp with a bit of a lift and some bigger shoes.. beenwrong2002 i love how your ex looks. Im a teen aswel..... 17... and i just did some simple mods. learn as you go, tackle the easy stuff first, and work your way up. if your not super keen on a specific thing, dont do it, youll screw yourself in the long run. Good luck bud.

Unless you set on lift parts. I would say get an air intake, exhaust, underdrive pullys. These will not only give you more horse power but if you keep your foot out of it, these will increase you gas mileage. Being 16 yr old paying for gas is a bear.

Sorry, second thought. Keep in mind that once you get the lift you will want the bigger tires and rims. So unless you have the extra money for that right now. I would hold off. IMO lifts with small tires is not a good look

It really depends on how big you go. But generally yes if you buy a lift you'll want at least tires and possibly gears.

thanks for all the advice guys. yeah i know what you mean, I dont want a tall truck runnin on little tires lol. I'm waiting until my pockets are deep enough to get everything at once. At my high school i'm taking the shop class so whatever i buy i'll be talking to my shop teacher so we can install everything.

beenwrong your X looks great man. thats just about what i was imagining mine looking like. Mine is grey and it used to have the purple pinstripe but i got it redone to a good looking black one. when i get a good camera ill post some pics somewhere on here

Thanks again
