I pick up my New project in an hour

well I am Getting a Stock mustang Computer now cause I got a good Deal on the Complete set up.

The only thing that I see that need to be chaged on the Between the Systems is the Distributor. The injectors Seem to be the same. Most Injectors that I have seen are listed as 89-98 injectors. The Different in the fuel rail is the Explorer one connects on the driver side the mustang one connect on passanger side leading to less troubles.

Where did you get a deal. Is the wire harness new or used? Let us know how it goes.

I'm a bit scared to use a used wire harness. It takes a lot of time to check out where everything goes and do a proper continuity check, so I plan on going with new harnesses from FMS. A used computer should be OK, they can be tested easily by a shop.

I was looking at the MSD site today. They have a nice billet distributor for 93 stang. They are high cost at $250. You should be able to get a good one from the junk yard for cheap.

What motor mounts and headers are you going with?

Hey Guy,

I can do the wiring for you when you are ready for the swap. Even if you get a FMS wiring harness, you still need to make it work with the truck. There is no getting around the wiring. It IS the hardest part of any swap. I'm doing GoFast's wiring right now.

Hay Bret, That would be great.

Could you just provide the details as to what modifications you had to make. There should only have been about a dozen wires to jump. I would really appreciate it.

I was planning on going through the wire diagrams and tracing things out this past week. Unfortunately I got stuck in the NYC area and couldn't get a flight home until yesterday. To top it off I had to fly from Newark to San Francisco, then back to Colorado.

Guy, did I see you on wb2 news last night?

Guy, I got a Deal from Some of the guys on the Mustang forum. I got several Offers for the Wiring harness. Now I just need a Donor 92 Explorer harness.

Kris Guilbeaux,

A thought, why do you need the '92 Explorer harness?

If I am thinking right you want to remove the computer/engine portion of the stock 4.0 harness and disgard it. Replace it with the Mustang engine/computer harness.

I may be wrong but let me know what you are going to do.

Sandy,

Brett is taking the Harness from the Mustang and Explorer and Wires them together (so I dont have to worry About it). Then all I have to do is Pull the stock Harness and Replace it with the New 4.0 to 5.0 harness. This Mean the my side of the Job is Mostly mounting the Motor.

Sandy, Guy

You really can't pull the 4.0 harness out of the truck and toss it. You have a lot of other truck functions that run through the harness than just the motor. For example, headlights, turn signals, horn, abs, electric shift, etc, etc, etc, Plus, you can't strip out the harness and expect the mustang harness to work with the large round white plug on the front of the firewall...

Kris, if you time it right, you can pull the 4.0 harness and get it to me so by the time you have all the 5.0 stuff bolted in, you'll be ready for the harness. This would save you from buying another harness...

Kris..... after all is done you'd be able to write a book on building a perfect "X" well, in your case, a perfect Navajo and make some money this way. A build-up like this is really a long distance shot for me but non the less very tempting. Keep writing about it......

OK on removing the harness, BUT...
I remove the computer and all of the wiring connected with it, which included the engine harness. All that was left was the vehicle wiring. Then I placed a battery in box and tried out a few thing to make sure all was well with the remaining harness.

So far so good, I wish I had a friend to do it for me.

Enjoy,

Brett-Is there anyway I can get a drawing of some sort with how ya do all the wiring on the motor etc. The shop my truck is at said they cant do the wiring till Nov fer some BS reason, so, now I gotta find another shop, or find out how to do it myself. I got most of the wires for the gauges according to harwoods manual...it's getting the computer and all the ignition to work, etc.
Any help possible? Wanna come to Chicago to do it? ;)
Pete

Hey Everyone... I just got off the Phone with Advance adaptors with some really good News. They have made a New Set of Adaptors for the Explorer adn 5.0 swaps. The Five Speed is an NV3550 and it has adaptors to use the stock T-case but can still handle an atlas 2. The Shifter will come up less then an inch back from Stock and is much Stronger than the t-5 but not as hugh as the NV4500.

The Guy I talked told me this set up was desided for Explorer more than the Ranger. So I have desided on a Tranny.

Hey Dre When do you want me to start writing my Book... :)

We need to start taking names from advance Adapters, I just talked with them and got a different story.

Like you I have been attempting to make a transmission decission. I was originally going to go with a Mazda M5R2 from a full size F-150 or Bronco. The problem is the shifter location is several inches ( about 4.5 ") closer to the engine than the stock location. This means more transmission well modifications as well as a custom stick to clear the dash. My last conversation with AA also revealed that there is not an adapter for the Ford full size M5R2 trans. to BW1354 T/C (This is not what I was told last week).

My next thought like yours was an NV xxxx transmission.

AA told me there was NOT a transfer case adapter for the NV4500 to BW1354 T/C.

I got a similar story about the NV3550 transmission. The only adapter was for the new jeep NP231 transfer case. I was told there are no other adapters available.

I was also told they are no longer going to stock the T5 beacuse Tremec say's it's out of production, they have something like 100 left. There are no more.

Every time I talk to AA I get a different story. I have lost most my confidence in these folks.

Hay Matt,
Yes you might have seen me on wb2 news ....
complaining about airport security.....
What a joke.

I was in the NYC area when the WTC bombing occured. Iwas stuck there for an extra week before I could hop a flight to San Francisco and then to Denver. They took my beard clippers away from me as well as my toe nail and finger nail clippers (these are real dangerous items). Of course they did forget to take my pocket knife away from me.

Yes, I now feel very secure.

Kris, problem is I can't publish it.......... it would be very interested to read the story how you have transformed a 2 WD Navajo into a very much capable off-road warrior. I went through a lot myself although I didn't have to convert to 4WD. I just translated your write up on the conversion for the guy in Poland - he's converting his 2WD Explorer to 4 WD....... with a small lift. You can say than that your book (in writing) has been already translated into foreign language.

More conversations with Advanced Adapters -

AA rep: Patrick

Ford Full Size Transmissions adapter - 50-4502
Adapts a 31 spline to the 1350 T/C (I believe the 1350 and 1354 have the same bolt patterns.

This is a 4 " long adapter that attaches to the back of the Transmission (6 bolt pattern) and attaches to the 1350 T/C. It is a 2 part kit with a housing and spud shaft to step the 31 spline shaft down to the 1350 input shaft size.

T5 transmission and 1350 adapter. Patrick seems to think they have the adater, but not the transmissions. He was reluctant to check.

NV3550 Transmission
Patrick was more helpful with this one...
There is only one "complete" adapter kit designed for Early Bronco vehicles. The kit is $2025.00 :
Includes:
Small block ford Bell housing adapter for transmission
NV 3550 transmission
NV3550 to DANA 20 T/C adapter
T/C shifter linkage bracket
Cross member support

The Dana 20 has a low range of 2:1, I suspect you could get one from salvage yard for $100, but they may be hard to find.

You could get a 3:1 low range gear kit from AA for $750 to make this a more versatile Transfer case.

My low range with 4.56 difff gears would be:
4.04 * 3 * 4.56 = 55.27

On another note.
The torque rating on the NV3550 is 300 ft/lb
The torque rating on a late model T5 WC - HD is 330 ft/lb
The standard T5 WC is 300 ft/lb

The T5 provided by AA uses a different set up. The gears are from a Jeep T5 which has a lower ratio of 4.01. Ford made some with a low ratio of 3.97, The mustang version was around 3.25. This may explain why AA claims the torque rating of the NV3550 is much higher than the T5?
