I want to reprogram my alarm system.

wats up everyone. i have a little problem. i have a ford explorer sport '98 and i need to reprogram my alarm system. i turn the car from off to on and the doors unlock the fifth time i turn the car on but my alarm transmitter dont work can someone help me out?

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the stock 95-01 section. Do you have a factory alarm or an aftermarket alarm? Do you have a spare remote transmitter? Did you test the battery in your remote transmitter?

im not sure but i think its a factory system i have a square 3 button remote so i dont even know how to check the batteries in it but when i turn my car off the auto theft light comes on but the only time the alarm goes off is when i open the passenger door.

Replacement batteries cost less than $5. Many autoparts stores have a display set up to test your keyfob. You pry apart the keyfob with a screwdriver or coin in the gap along the sides. Most use battery CR2032, but you can confirm the size once you open it up. Replaced batteries don't need reprogramming.

If the fob is actually broken (not just a battery), replacements are pretty cheap online (I got 2 for $30 delivered) and only take a minute to program in to the truck.

I might have mis-interpretted your post. You are saying that you switch off-on five times in a row the door locks cycle? That is actually the programming sequence (usually either 5 or 8 on-off in less than a minute, doors cycle, then you can push any button on a new remote and the car will add it to the memory).
