2014 Explorer Sport
Hello,
So a couple of weeks ago, I got some new OEM Ford Keyfobs for my 2014 Ford Explorer Sport. I tried programming them myself but I ended up unprogramming the only key that I had to the car. I took it to my local Ford Dealer to get the keys programmed and they were unsuccessful as well. They ended up having to contact Ford and they said it was a PCM Issue. The dealership just replaced the PCM today and it's still is unable to have keys programmed. I now have to wait for them to contact Ford again so they can see what's wrong again. Does anyone know why I feel like I'm just getting the run around and/or can someone just tell me what needs to be fixed? I'm thinking it's the PATS System but I'm not sure tbh.

Welcome to the Forum.
Did you have 2 OEM keys when you attempted the programming? It sounds like you only had 1. As stated in the Owner's Manual 2 original keys are required, otherwise the dealer has to do it. FORScan not withstanding.
Programming an Intelligent Access Key, Page 90 of the 3rd printing;
You must have two previously programmed intelligent access keys inside
the vehicle and the new unprogrammed intelligent access keys readily
accessible. See an authorized dealer to have the spare key programmed
if two previously programmed keys are not available.

In regards to the dealer not being successful, I don't really have an answer.

So I had un-programmed them via FORScan and tried reprogramming two new keys using it but it's like it never even recognized them to begin with even when they were in the slot?

So you did have 2 original working keys to start with? Your post seems to indicate you only had one. "...unprogramming the only key that I had..."
I don't recall anyone deprogramming their key before. I'm guessing you followed the steps laid out in the Manual?

I only had one key from the used dealership I bought it from, but in the vehicle it said there were two programmed, so I tried just programming, using the way specified in the manual, a third key (so I'd technically have 2) and it acted like there wasn't anything in the backup slot. So I unprogrammed the original two keys (even though I only had one given to me) and tried to re-program the original key and one of the new keys that I'd bought. When I went through the Security Access it said there wasn't a key detected, so I contacted a local locksmith to see if they could program the keys and they were getting the same issue? So I had it towed to a Ford Dealership and they tried to program the keys and they were also unsuccessful. So I'm now I'm waiting on them to contact Ford again to figure out what's wrong, but I just wanted to check to see if someone on here possibly knew what's wrong, so I could maybe relay that info to the Dealership? IDK, I'm just sick of waiting because it's been almost three weeks, when all I needed done was keys programmed.

According to the Manual, and it is shown in my copy of the instructions above, when doing this procedure, you need to have 2 physical OEM keys in the cabin when you start the programming. Since you only had 1 physical key, the programming could not be done, regardless of what the vehicle data showed. I think part of the problem is that you deprogrammed the only good key you had and likely removed the code that the vehicle is looking for in order to be able to start up.

So even if though I bought two new keys, and was trying to program them with FORScan but it didnt even work when there was a key in the slot, when I still had the original key(s) (though only one physical key) programmed to the vehicle, then when it didn't work I erased the old keys and when I tried to program the new keys using FORScan it said there wasn't any keys detected? So is the slot broken?

The manual says you need two for a good reason. You should have added keys, and not removed any. It clearly worked before since the truck started. I’m assuming you told the dealer what you attempted with FORScan?

The issue is it wouldn't work when using FORScan to program the additional key, which didn't require the two keys with you. I haven't told them what I did with FORScan due to it not being a true Ford Product and them saying that I shouldn't use it?

I was looking into that as well, and yes you need the two working keys and then set the unprogrammed key in the slot where the key would go and then do the procedure to program the new key, otherwise, it's not going to work.

So likely, you're getting the runaround. Or pay them to program the 2nd key or both.
