Hi guys:
Could be a dumb question, but I see numerous threads about the IAC (idle air control) and their relation with the X engine performance.
I read carefully the entire Haynes Manual and I can't find a single word about this darn thing.
However, the Haynes did mention the Air Bypass Valve, wich is located at the side of the throttle body.
Also in other site (I don't remember where) a guy said that the IAC in the X is not serviceable when the electric connector is at 90º, but you can clean it if the electric connector goes straigh to the rear.

take a look

Is this thing the same that you guys call the IAC?

If is the same thing, is possible open it and clean?

Thank in advance

Yes and clean it! The outside looks really dirty, Im guesing the inside could use a good cleaning.

Are you having problems other wise?

Thanks DonM!

Well, the check engine light never has turned on and in idle the engine runs smoothly, but my X has 159K already and as long I know, the IAC is the original one.
So is time to give it some attention I gess

How can I clean the IAC? Carb clean spray is good for?

Thanks a lot

Sorry, I was assuming you were having problems. If so, then no need to clean the IAC!

If it's not broke, dont fix it. :D

Ok, got it!

Cleaning the IAC could help smooth out the engine (esp at idle). So if its not as smooth as it was new, it wouldn't hurt to clean it when some throttle body cleaner.

Yep, you get a point.
To clean the IAC I need to take all the thing out the throttle body, or is enough unscrew the rear end of the IAC and put some shots of carb cleaner inside?

On the OHV engine, you don't need to mess with any part of the throttle body to clean the IAC valve. It is separate.

i took off the IAC, shot some throttle body cleaner in there, scrubed with a lil brush for a lil bit, then just let it dry and it was good to go.

So did it help your Idle any?

Yes, it helped some. What helped most was running seafoam through the vaccum hose. Downside of the seafoam: it only ran that smooth for about a week.
