Idle Air Control

don't remember where it is, but that is what it stands for. Should be able to find it in your owner's manual or a Haynes, or I'm sure someone else will know where it is or even leave a pic for you!
And, are you saying you started having problems after replacing the fuel filter?

If you are standing directly in front of your Ex, your IAC is located on the right side (drivers side) of the intake manifold, just behind the throttle body. Its a cylindrical shape with a plug coming out of the back of it. I would get you a pic of it, but its snowing outside:D

IDLE AIR CONTROL

SO HOW DO I CHECK TO SEE IF THE IDLE AIR CONTROL ISN'T WORKING. I am pretty sure i know where it is located on the engine now.

I had this problem when I had my Ranger, if I remember correctly to check the IAC, with the engine running at idle, disconnect the wire harness to the IAC, if the engine dip or runs rougher, then the IAC is working fine, if nothing changes, the there may be a problem...

Can someone correct or confirm?

If you can start it by giving it some gas as you turn the key and then your engine dies when you release the gas then your IAC is dirty. This happened to me. I took off the IAC (two bolts and a plug) and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner. I let it dry and put it back on and my problem was solved. Hopefully this works for you. Do some searching and you will find LOTS of info on this topic.
