First off, its a '98 4.0 OHV, heres the situation:

On my way south to Edmonton I started getting an idiot light on the cluster (lower left corner of the battery/oil pressure cluster) that I've never seen before, its a gas station fuel pump with three drop shapes on the right side. It's obviously fuel related and started happening at 3/4 full occationally dimming or dissapearing. The manual shows every light but this one on the cluster. The dealer was stumped because they said these light indicate water in the gas but that only the deisel trucks are equipped with these lights. Am I an odity for having this light or do 2 differant dealers not know anything about thier own vehicles?

The light you are describing is not shown in my 97 manual. Maybe on Canadian trucks only?

I have the oner's manual and its not in there, doesnt even show the spot where it should be. On a picture I saw it has a "check suspension" light in it's place
edit: I found a pic of a white face guage set that has this light, here it is on the bottom left of the right hand cluster

somebody suggested my gas cap may not have been proporly on but I tried running without it and didnt reproduce the light...

BTW the link you sent wont work for me

I'm not sure why, but you first have to go to WWW.Motorcraftservice.Com, then click onto the above link. I think it has something to do with a cookie that is stored when you first log onto that site. The link won't open unless it finds it first.

None of those manuals show the light, but one of the supplements says if the fuel cap isnt on right the check engine light may come on. I tried running without the cap and nothing unusual happens

Yes, if you run without the cap the CEL should come on, but it may take a couple of driving cycles before it does. The OBD II system runs a fuel system pressure test to make sure there are no leaks in the vapor recovery system.

I looked at my instrument panel, and I don't have a warning light like the one you show in the picture, so it must have been added for the 98 model year (mine is 97).

One of the supplementary manuals in the above link say that if the cap isnt proporly sealed it will set off the "check engine" light, and I didnt have the engine light on. I suppose the "drops" could represent vapour though and possibly the manual was carried over from 97?...

i have the same problem, i know this is old post but that light is coming on for me, anyone know where it is.

I just looked at my 99 manual, and that light isn't shown. There is a Check Suspension light in that location according to the manual. Sorry.
