idle problem at start up

hi,guys.i got a 1998 explorer 4.0 sohc.on first start of day the idle is either bearly running or shooting up to 2000 rpm.and stays that way till warms up ,then runs ok.what is my problem.well realy don't know,first explorer.....need help driving me crazy

Scan for trouble codes FIRST, check engine light or not. From your described cold idle
issues, my first "guess" would be very common leaking intake gaskets on a 1998 SOHC.
